Grooming and dressing support

Understanding Grooming and dressing support
Grooming and dressing support helps patients maintain a neat, presentable appearance when fine motor limitations, weakness, or cognitive changes make these tasks challenging. Looking and feeling well-groomed contributes to self-esteem and emotional well-being.
Caregivers provide patient, respectful assistance with hair care, oral hygiene, shaving, nail care, and clothing selection — adapting their approach to each patient's abilities and preferences.
What to Expect
Your caregiver will assist with tasks like brushing teeth, combing hair, shaving, and selecting appropriate clothing. They encourage you to participate as much as possible and adapt techniques to your comfort level.
Supporting Independence
Organize clothing in an accessible location. Choose clothing with simple closures like elastic waistbands or Velcro when buttons are difficult. Keep grooming supplies at counter height to reduce reaching.
When to Contact Your Care Team
Contact your care team if grooming tasks become significantly more difficult, if you notice skin problems during care, or if cognitive changes are making daily routines confusing or distressing.
