Laundry and linens

Understanding Laundry and linens
Clean clothing and linens are essential for comfort, dignity, and infection prevention — particularly for patients managing wounds, incontinence, or skin conditions. Caregivers handle laundry tasks that the patient cannot safely perform due to physical limitations or fall risk associated with carrying loads and navigating stairs.
Regular linen changes reduce bacteria, allergens, and moisture that can contribute to skin breakdown and respiratory irritation.
What to Expect
Your caregiver will wash, dry, fold, and put away the patient's clothing and bed linens. They change bed sheets on a regular schedule and as needed. Special care is taken with items that require gentle handling.
Keeping Linens Fresh
Use hypoallergenic detergent if the patient has sensitive skin. Change bed linens at least weekly, or more often if soiled. Keep a spare set of sheets accessible for quick changes.
When to Contact Your Care Team
Contact your care team if laundry needs exceed the caregiver's scope, if the patient is experiencing skin reactions to detergents, or if frequent linen changes suggest a medical issue like increased incontinence.
